Shihan Satoshi Yui trained as an uchi-deshi of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama and inherited his training directly from him. One of the few instructors who still pass on the training system as it was practiced during the Sosai's lifetime, he was appointed Supreme Advisor to the Kyokushin Hamai Group in February 2026.
In 1976, Shihan Yui joined the Satsukawa Dojo of the Japan Karate Association's Shizuoka East Branch, where he studied karate from the fundamentals through to advanced application under Shihan Toshihiko Satsukawa. In 1982, he entered the Honbu (Headquarters) Dojo of the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan as an uchi-deshi of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama. Living in the Wakajishi-ryo (the live-in dormitory for uchi-deshi), he honed his skills as an official instructor and international instructor at the Honbu Dojo. Since then he has taught not only in Japan but in more than 30 countries overseas, an instructor who has walked the front line of Kyokushin.
Today he runs Jinshin Dojo in Tachikawa, Tokyo. The dojo is known as a rare place that passes on, almost exactly in its original form, the training system practiced during Sosai Oyama's lifetime. The principle of jita kyoei (mutual prosperity of oneself and others) lies at the root of its training, and the dojo devotes itself to developing not only technique but also strength of character and strength of spirit.
To pass on, without embellishment, what he received directly from the Sosai to the next generation: this stance closely matches the philosophy of the Hamai Group, whose mission is to carry on Kyokushin as it was meant to be. Shihan Yui's appointment as Supreme Advisor will help the Hamai Group carry the path it has inherited into the future on an even firmer footing. Going forward, we will seek the Shihan's guidance through training sessions and training camps.
Jinshin Dojo, where Shihan Yui teaches, welcomes visitors and offers free trial lessons. For training days and times and information on joining, please see the dojo's website.
